IGIC has a pure economic development objective. Given the diverse economic needs within our 23 focus counties, IGIC pursues a somewhat broad industry focus for its regional center. Nine industry codes (see below) define the parameters of investment projects. Each industry has been carefully selected to meet needs specific to the IGIC focus region.
Because one of the historical economic weaknesses of rural and open country counties in Eastern Idaho has been an over-reliance on a single industry, it is vital not to duplicate that pattern. IGIC has chosen to focus on nine industries with particular catalytic relevance to economic development in Eastern Idaho.
IGIC pursues projects that strengthen core sectors of Idaho such as manufacturing and agriculture, while also diversifying Eastern Idaho’s economy by boosting industries with untapped potential, like recreation and technical services. Industry breadth is key to economic vitality and sustainable change in Eastern Idaho.
